After months of packing, stress, and preparation, you're finally a college student! Getting used to your new home away from home will take some time, so the first couple of days will fee like a period of adjustment. As a freshman myself, I've compiled a list of a few realities of my first week on campus.

1. It'll feel weird waking up in a dorm for the first time

Realizing you're in your new Twin XL at school and not your bed at home will confuse you for a few seconds after you open your eyes. Adjusting to your new temporary home will take some getting used to.

2. You'll quickly meet people with completely different backgrounds

Chances are, people from all over the country or world came to study at your college and university, and are just as excited to meet new people as you are. You'll quickly find others that have had completely different experiences from where they're from and their daily lives, so don't be afraid to learn something new!

3. Making friends will feel forced at first

During the first few days on campus, you'll introduce yourself to more people than you can remember. Being in a new environment can definitely make you feel like you have to befriend every person in your residence hall or classes, so always make sure to be kind and genuine. Every other freshman is in the same boat as you!

4. You might get lost finding your classes

Google Maps will become your best friend during the first few days of classes as you try to figure out where to go. No matter how big or small your campus is, being in a new, unfamiliar place can be confusing, so leave yourself plenty of time to find your classes.

5. Your first night out might not go as planned

The night that you finally go out with your friends might not be perfect. Some bad weather, difficulty getting into or finding a party, or other factors could disappoint you. No matter what, have as much fun as you can and remember that as you get used to your new surroundings, you'll have many more opportunities to go out.

6. Icebreakers will actually help you meet people

As cheesy and awkward as they can be, icebreakers can help you find people in your classes or dorm building that share similarities with you. Talking to someone about a shared hobby or home state will make transitioning to college life just a little bit easier.

7. You'll love being independent

Having your own schedule and managing your day can be super exciting, especially because you're away from home. Your first taste of complete self-reliance and a handy dry-erase calendar will allow you to plan how you want to spend your time so that you can work hard and play hard.

8. Your college/university will make you feel welcome

No matter where you go to school, every person there will make you feel like you're a part of their family, whether big or small. So rep your campus colors and get ready for four wonderful years!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
