So the first wave of exams is quickly approaching and I am amongst the many that have yet to crack open the book for the class the exam is in. I know what you’re thinking, “Kaitlyn, STUDY! Stop writing for goodness sake,” but that just isn’t possible right now. You see, I have deadline after deadline and I haven’t found out the most effective way to spread out my time for each one.
With the aforementioned exams, the illness that does not seem to leave my body, the interview I have on Wednesday and all the issues that go on in my personal life, I’ve found that the best way to go about a busy day/week is to prioritize and ease on through it, minimizing stress. My biggest problem is that I find all of the things I do need to do as equally important, and I tend to procrastinate and only have the last few minutes to work on something before the deadline. Is it the lack of motivation, crammed schedule or a lack of interest in the things that I have been doing lately? No idea.
However, I have some tips that I would recommend you listen to the next time you’re behind on assignments or other important things going on in your life:
- Remember that your mental state comes before all else. It is important to know the difference between a busy week and a nearly impossible one and that needs to be acknowledged as soon as it becomes an issue.
- Take your time. Do not rush your assignments at the last minute when there is absolutely no way for accuracy and timing to be on your side. Instead, make sure to make time for your daily activities and abide to listening to that schedule in order to please everyone else around you.
- Breaks are, in fact, an important part of studying. There is absolutely no way that I would have gotten through CHM2045 my freshman year without having to take breaks in between heavier subjects or harder questions.
- Support others around you and support yourself. Sometimes, our assignments and whatnot get in the way of our self-love and self-appreciation, so make sure to keep up words of encouragement to those around you, as well as to yourself.
I hope that your first wave of exams is not as stressful as mine and that you all get high grades.
