For many, last week marks the beginning of the fall semester. My first day of classes started the Wednesday before Labor Day. I am now officially in my junior year at college. I cannot believe how time has flown since my freshman year. After going to all my classes of my first day, I started to reminisce about my past first days of college. The different emotions I have experienced each first day just show how much I have grown over the years.
My first day of freshman year is a little comical to think about now. I started off at a community college, which was about half an hour from my house. I remember my dad dropping me off an hour early for my classes because I was NOT going to be late for my first class. I had every single book with me, and I was ready to roll. I sat outside my classroom for Psychology 101; I was nervous as can be. I was about to experience something brand new which I wasn't so sure I liked yet.
The day progressed, and I had my history class next. Let me just say; the professor terrified me to begin his class. His rules were strict as can be and he assigned a bunch of reading. I was scared to keep going with that class, but it ended up being my favorite class with the absolute best professor ever. After two weeks, all the students who weren't serious about his class dropped out, and we had a small class that was able to talk and learn together.
Six o'clock rolled around and my math class started. Even though math was not the most fun class to take, I met some people who I will never forget. I made several friends from my math class starting that first day. The two I hung out the most with were Chris and Nick who were great study buddies. My sister and I took that class together and that first day, we talked with so many new people and the class was off to a great start!
I have since transferred to a new school where I live on campus where I have been since my sophomore year. This past Wednesday, I had my fifth the first day of college (third, if you count it by year and not by semester), The difference is, I was not as nervous, a little nervous, but not too bad. I don't carry around 30lbs of books anymore, and I arrive reasonably early. I am well adjusted into college by this point.
I went to my first class at 7:45 a.m., Financial Management, where we went over the syllabus and discussed the expectations of my professor. I already knew the professor for Financial Management from this past Spring Break when we went off the school business department trip to Scotland and Ireland together. I know I will be challenged by this class, but in a good way.
At 9:05, I had Principles of Management where we spent the class introducing ourselves. The professor for that class, I have had before, is my advisor. He was also the professor for my spring break business trip. We are pretty close to this point! His class will be very educational and extremely fun. I am looking forward to all his jokes this year.
My third class was Bible in Current Perspective. That class is not part of my marketing major, so it will probably require more effort to get a good grade. I have already spoken with the professor and asked him a million questions about the syllabus, but I feel more confident after our discussion.
The difference between my two first days is a huge difference. I am not as nervous as I used to be, I know now that I can make it through without being stressed out. I know I can go to God with all my anxieties and lean on Him to get me through. I am looking forward to this coming year and all my first days to come.
