Of the many skills I am gifted with, the ability to grow a large, luscious beard is not one of them. I usually end up with something that resembles a Tony Stark Chia Pet gone bad, so when November has come along, I've always gone about my shaving routine as usual.
For those of you who don't know, many men grow out their facial hair throughout the month of November, as the official No-Shave site describes:
The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.
Originating as Movember in South Australia back in 1999, No-Shave November has since become an international phenomenon. The Movember Foundation also covers a slightly wider range of topics, looking to bring awareness to Men's health, in general, highlighting prostate and testicular cancer, as well as depression and mental health. It's a great cause that requires literally no effort, and for the first time, I'm going to try it.
And document each day of growth.
Then report back in a month.
Because that seems like a productive use of my time.
Snark aside, No-Shave November is a fantastic cause that I've been hesitant to participate in due to my lack of facial hair production. However, I encourage others to take the plunge and try this as well, to help raise awareness about cancer and Men's health.
Good luck, and have a great No-Shave November!
