The beginning of the rest of your life. Where you pick everything up and move into a small cubicle you are now calling home for the next 10 months. Your roommate is someone you have met only once becomes the best friend you have always wanted. It's that awkward stage of your life where you are maybe thinking, "what do I do now?" Let me give some high schoolers a piece of advice.
1. Keep an open mind.
You won't be doing or seeing the same things you did in high school. If you change your major 15 times in one semester so what? Don't narrow your mind to where you don't learn or try new things.
2. Get a roommate that will be your best friend.
Trust me when I say you will need that shoulder to cry on when you're heartbroken and she's just across the room anxious to pick you up and be there for you. You'll also need those late night milkshake runs. Always a good thing to do.
3. Study!
As boring and awful as it sounds, I regret every opportunity I didn't take to get those extra study hours in. Your GPA really does matter. Always take those extra credit opportunities and always join those study groups!
4. Go out and have fun with your best friends!
Go get a spontaneous nose piercing and squeeze your friends hand so you don't cry. Go dance around a party until you can't move anymore. This is the weekend you will remember. Or not. Depends on how you want to take this
For my first semester of college I was terrified. My anxiety has been a problem for many many years. A lot of people questioned me as to why or how I would want to leave my home and go to school 2 1/2 hours away. You must conquer this anxiety. You can not let it control you. Ohio State has always been a dream school of mine and I wasn't going to let a stupid little voice inside my head tell me not to go. The first week was a struggle but looking back at it now, I wouldn't want it any other way. I have met life long friends, and learned how to live on my own. Don't let that little voice inside your head steer you away from something you want to do
