Dear My First Roommate,

Freshman year has been one for the books and I could not have imagined it without you. Our story is a little different than most other freshman roommate stories, and I’m totally grateful for that. You mean so much to me; I really hope that you know that there will NEVER be enough words to ever describe how grateful I am for you. Because of you I am a better person. You have taught me so much about myself that I would have never figured out on my own. I know that I wasn’t the perfect roommate, and there were definitely days that you wanted to kill me, but I’m thankful for the friendship that we had to where we could talk things out and because of that we never really got in an actual fight. There are so many things that since you were my roommate that I am thankful for and here is a list of only a couple of them.

1. Netflix and Movie Marathons

I know that it didn’t matter on the type of day that either one of us had, we would ALWAYS have a Netflix or movie marathon at the end of the day. If we weren’t re-watching episodes of Gilmore Girls or One Tree Hill, we were starting new Netflix series or watching movies we had never seen before (or re-watching ones we had seen a hundred times.)

2. Jam Sessions

When I found out that we had the same music taste I knew that it was going to be a beautiful friendship. It didn’t matter if we were getting ready for date parties, swaps, formals, or just sitting in the room, I knew you were always down to jam to music. Thank you for always strumming guitar while I plucked the ukulele and for singing any song we could play for hours at a time.

3. Midnight Laughs

It didn’t matter if I had an 8AM or an 11AM, I am thankful for the late night laughs that we shared. Some of my favorite memories with you are from us lying in bed sending direct messages to each other on twitter and Instagram or tagging each other in the comments of Facebook post. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face before I fell asleep every night.

4. Deep Conversations

You were one person that understands me as well as I understand myself. Even when you didn’t know how to handle a situation that I was going through you were there to give me advice, or to just let me talk it out. You always reminded me that I was better than the drama that was against me. You are one of the greatest support systems I could have.

5. Fashion Advice

I know that I could always count on you to be real with me, especially when it came to what I was wearing or what I looked like. You never let me walk out the door looking too ratchet. You helped me put my life together on days when I didn’t know where my head was honestly.

6. Your Makeup and Clothes

Even though we both know that I had enough clothes to last me three years, you always let me wear your stuff whenever I had already tried on everything in my closet and just wasn’t feeling any of it. You always let me borrow your eyeshadow and always did my contour and highlight so that I looked like I had my life figured out when we went places. Thank you for being so selfless and letting me use your stuff.

I’m so thankful that you are forever my best friend and that I don’t have to say goodbye to you because let’s be honest… I couldn’t do it. I really don’t think that God could have given me a better roommate than you! I am so thankful that you were the person I got to share my freshman dorm room with. Will I miss our room? Heavens yes, but what I’ll truly miss from it is living in it with you!

Sincerely,

Your Freshman Roommate!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
