NY RANGERS!!

Thursday, September 29th was my fist hockey game ever, and it was at Madison Garden Stadium.

I never really liked hockey, nor had the will to ever watch it. If a game was on, I would change the channel saying "Ew I hate hockey," and then my friend, who loves hockey, would turn to me and say "What is wrong with you?!" Yes, that is exactly how it happens.

The experience was great, but taking the train was a weird experience. I never liked trains, and I will admit that I have a little fear of trains. Other than the fact that in the morning there was a train incident in Hoboken, the train ride was actually good. We all goofed around in our seats and had a fun time.

Finally getting to the station, which is under the stadium, I was in awe once we got out. It is huge. Our seats were a little high, but they were dead center. IT WAS SO COLD. I had a hoodie and a coat on underneath the jersey, but even then I was so cold. The four friends I was with thought I was crazy! All of them only had about one hoodie on and that was it. It was the first hockey game I have been to so I wasn't used to the cold.

At the game, at first, I just sat there in a Rangers jersey and looked around not entirely caring. Once the team got a goal, the crowd went wild and did this chant they do for every goal made. After that, I got into the game enough to actually watch. By the end of the game is when I really got into it, watching everyone get excited and scream. I did not get up and scream like everyone else there. I still sat there looking around, but I did chant a little. I probably should have stood up, and maybe I would not have been so cold at the game.

Walking out was so crowded, and you could hear people speaking different languages--it was so cool! We then went to get food, but it wasn't good. I didn't get food because I knew it was not going to be good. After eating, we ended up waiting at the train station for maybe an hour, or an hour and a half. The train ride back was pretty easy and tiring, and just watching "Shameless" on Netflix did not entirely help with the tiredness.

In the end, I had a really great experience at my first hockey game, but if hockey came on the TV I will still probably change the channel.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
