I recently started working as a barista at a Starbucks near me. So far it has been a wonderful experience, and I enjoy it. I have been working for about a month, and already I feel that I have learned so much. I believe that SpongeBob memes would do a good job of showing the struggle of being a Starbucks barista. Here are a few situations that I face as a barista that SpongeBob demonstrates perfectly.
1. When you find out that lattes, cappuccinos, caramel macchiatos and flat whites are almost all the same thing.
Someone was really creative with steamed milk and espresso somewhere down the road.
2. When someone asks for something crazy like a green tea latte with ristretto shots and coconut milk, and you hope they have had it before and know how it tastes.
I will give you exactly what you ordered and read it out to you again, but I cannot guarantee that it will taste good.
3. When you are on bar and nail all of the drinks during peak in a timely manner.
The fire in this meme is relevant for two reasons: because you nailed it and because you are really hot from all the movement and heat from the drinks.
4. When a customer orders a drink and you read it back to them carefully, but they insist that you got it wrong once they have received it later.
I am pretty sure if you had asked for a trenta but paid for a tall, one of us would have noticed the price difference.
5. When someone asks for a drink they saw on Instagram but does not know what is in it. Now you have to guess exactly what it is that they want.
Then they swear you made it wrong because their drink is slightly lighter than the picture (Instagram filters do wonders).
6. When you wake up for that 4:30 a.m. shift and it is pitch black outside.
And you know the sun will not be out for almost another four hours, but hey, at least I can sleep for the rest of the day.
7. When someone mobile orders five different types of frappuccinos during peak.
I am sorry, but these will not be done in the five minutes that you decided to arrive.
8. When you see that lighthearted regular and already know exactly what they want.
I have your tall flat white with coconut milk right here, Dan. How are the kids?
9. When you see you only have one hour left of your nine hour shift.
I mean, it has been great, but I am ready for an hour bath.
10. Through all the ups and downs, your fellow baristas and regulars are one big, happy family.
And we would not want it any other way.
