To The First Man I Ever Loved

You tickled my toes and checked for monsters, showed me the stars and how to reach them.

"I was bragging on you at work the other day"

I hear this so often and every time I do it just warms my heart knowing that I am making my daddy proud.

Dad, thank you for reminding me everyday that I make you proud. I don't think I would be where I am without you and your affirmations. Thank you for texting me every single night to tell me goodnight and that you love me. Honestly, every night around 9 o'clock I look at my phone just waiting for that text. It's one of the best parts of my day.

You have given me the best gift anyone could ever ask for, you believe in me.

Let me tell yah, you didn't raise no sissy. I am tough. It takes a lot to break me down and even when I do finally get to pushed to my limit, I know you're there to listen and let me cry on your shoulder. You raised a hard-headed, determined girl. I'm basically you sometimes when it comes to personality. I'm sure I can be a pain in the rear end sometimes. But hey, isn't that what I am supposed to do? You gotta blame someone for your hair being gray, so I'll take one for the team.

Every time I see a funny joke, or a not so funny, but we think it's a hilarious joke, I get reminded that I am just like you. I mean who else loves puns as much as we do? Not many people, especially mom, who just rolls her eyes at us because we're laughing so hard. We are goofballs, absolutely crazy and I wouldn't want it any other way. It keeps life fun, yah know? Or the endless hours of Ed, Edd, and Eddy and Dexter's Laboratory, now those are some great shows. I mean, I'm sure we could still watch it continuously because we are just big kids.

I was always daddy's little girl or daddy's princess. Scratch that. I AM daddy's princess and I will always be. You taught me that I deserve the best and now I don't accept anything else but the best. Growing up a child always watches their parents and how they love each other. You showed me that even when times get tough, love is worth it because at the end of the day that's all that matters. So, I know that I deserve to be treated like a princess because I obviously am one. I mean you tell me every night.

I may growing up and finding my own way in this scary world, but I will always remember where home is. I will always know that my daddy will always be a phone call away. Thank you for doing your absolute best. Thank you for giving me a goofball personality. Thank you for making me proud to be your daughter. Thank you for inspiring me everyday to do better than yesterday. Thank you for never complaining that I stay out too late when I come home. Thank you for being my dad.

Love your little princess,

Sammii Rae

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
