Through my life, I always knew I wanted to go to college for the reason that I wanted a better life and future for myself. My parents had worked very hard for me through the years so I could get an education that I deserved and the kind they could not get. My mom would always tell me "no one can take your education away from you" and even now she says that to me.
Through my high school years figuring out the college details was a struggle due to the fact I didn't have a parent nor a sibling who could have given me advice on, this made things more complicated I had to learn on my own. To any 1st generations out there congrats, you're most likely on your own on this chapter in your life in the meaning of you have to figure all of this out. you applied, signed up for classes, orientation, FASFA, loans and scholarships all on your own and with that I applaud you. You spent nights coming home from school or work to just apply for colleges or scholarships.
You spent days emailing back and forth with teachers and counselors for help because you could not go to your parents. They saw the struggle you went through they saw you stress out and they felt bad that they could not help more. They wished that all of that stress you felt could go away, but they knew, in the end, it would be all worth it.
You have worked hard for everything you have you're in college because you wanted to be in it and you pushed through. you got accepted you moved in and you started classes...
Congratulations.
Through all of the hard work and through all of the stressful nights you're in college it won't be easy, but you made it through the first half and you'll keep pushing through.
1st Generation college student and that's the biggest accomplishment you can have you will be stressed and you will be lost, but like before you figured it out you will figure this out too step by step.
