To My Last First College Football Game

Growing up my family watched sports yet we were not a huge football family. We would watch the Superbowl but if I recall, I would read a book or even study during. I went to a high school in rural Southwest Missouri that doesn't have a football team.

When I moved to Columbia for school at MU, I didn't think twice about not getting football tickets. Until my Junior year, I didn't attend a single Mizzou football game. My friends begged me and I just wouldn't give in, not really knowing what I was missing until I stepped into our huge stadium and got chills. The excitement, the crowd, the energy it was an europea I'd never gotten before.

This last weekend the Mizzou Tigers played Missouri State University. We haven't played MSU since 1923. That's been over 93 years the two schools have faced off against each other.

Part of me was excited to see a school so close to my home (MSU) play my alma mater. Part of me was hesitant because I have a few too many friends who attend MSU and if they beat MU who's in the SEC, well I just couldn't show my face around my hometown for a long while.

As the game started we scored a touchdown in the first 3 minutes. It was an amazing feeling as the crowd had a renewed energy for the new season and first game of the year. Surprisingly, as someone who's never been to a Bear's game, that they were able to keep up. Within the first 15 minutes, MSU had also scored a touchdown by one of our players not being able to outrun the MSU player. A majority of the first two quarters went this way while the Tiger grow grew relentless and tension was rising.

After the half time, it was like MSU just laid down and didn't offer a fight. Mizzou continued to score touchdown after touchdown with a final score of 72 to MSU's 43. Over 29 points to secure a shutout game for the Mizzou Tigers. I love all of my MSU friends and this isn't in any way to be mean, but we should all be proud of the schools that we attend. We should all support the games which our school plays because those players are peers that we go to school with. Be proud but remember to not get ugly at the end of it. It's just a game and who doesn't love a healthy competition?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
