My First Experience With Ghost Hunting

We heard a voice say "Can you not see me?"

Anyone that knows me knows that I full heartedly believe in the paranormal. From the experiences I have had to the experiences that friends and family tell me they have had, there really is no way I could not believe in paranormal activity. But this isn't paranormal activity like the movies. Although I do believe that maybe there is some slight possibility that those things may be able to happen to someone, that is an example of extreme and rare cases of paranormal activity. The term paranormal activity is, in most cases, voices caught over EVPs. It's not all the throwing people around the room, doors slamming, and possession that is depicted in the movies. Most of the things that people think is paranormal activity can be easily disproven.

What is an EVP? Well EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomenon. When there is no one in a room or the room is completely silent and on your recording you get a voice saying something, words, sounds, anything like that, that is the EVP. Its unexplained and one of the coolest, or maybe creepiest, things you will ever hear.

In April of this year I, along with my two friends Sydney and Matt, went to investigate Prospect Place in Trinway, Ohio. That was my first real experience with investigating somewhere for the paranormal. It was something that I will never forget. There is one part in the night, however, that I do not remember and only know what happened from what my Syd and Matt have told me. This part of the night it one of the biggest reasons I believe in the paranormal.

While investigating the ballroom on the third floor of Prospect Place, I became completely unresponsive and not myself. I was told that I became completely stone faced, and would not answer when either of them said my name or asked me if I was okay. I started walking around up there by myself in the dark without bothering to use my flash light to see. I didn't actually "come to" until I was guided down the stairs and stepped off the last step onto the second floor. As soon as I was on the second floor, I was back to my normal self, and I asked them what just happened. Not only did they witness whatever had kind of "controlled" me, so to speak, but we also heard crazy EVPs while all this was going on. When we went back to review the evidence after that night, we heard a voice say "Hannah, I get that out of you." We listened to it multiple times to make sure it wasn't Sydney or Matt's voice saying my name. It was not them!

There were other times throughout that night that we heard something or someone say my name. It really is a chilling experience, but when something like that happens and you have hard evidence like that, it is kind of hard not to believe.

Once during that night when we were investigating, I was in a room by myself using a spirit box. A spirit box is just a fancy radio that will surf through stations at a high speed to create a white noise. The white noise allows the spirit to come through to communicate so we can hear what they are trying to say. While in this room by myself I asked who/whatever was in there if it liked boys because while we were on the tour before we started, we heard that the spirits in the house didn't respond well to men.I immediately got a response through the spirit box tell me 'NO!'. Sydney, who was in the other room, heard it and asked if we heard the same thing. That spirit was loud and clear about what they thought.

There were other things that we found that night that is continuous evidence that only make me believe even more in the paranormal. One thing that Sydney experienced when we were up in the ballroom was a little ball of light coming out of the wall and going right back into it. Right after she saw it, she asked Matt and I if we saw it, and neither of us did. Right after we said that we didn't see it, we heard a voice say "Can you not see me?" on the recorder when reviewing.

We also were able to catch EVPs of a little girl's voice in the playroom and also a conversation on the second floor when no one was up there. We just left one of our recorders up there just in case there was activity up there when we were not there.

For the many hours we spent that night, we were able to catch a lot of EVPs, and that was very exciting. I can not wait to get to do another investigation. Syd and I are actively trying to find other places to do hunts for a good price. We are also trying to set up a paranormal club here on campus at Ashland University. We want to take something we love to do and share it with as many people we can!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
