First Aid Kit is a folk duo from Stockholm, Sweden composed of sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg. They formed the band and officially started making music together as First Aid Kit when they were 14 and 16 years old. The sister's incredible harmonies are easily and often compared to those of Simon & Garfunkel, and more often than not they sound even better together live than in a recording, but that's not to say their recordings aren't remarkable. I've been listening too, following, and loving First Aid Kit's music for about four, going on five, years no after my sister introduced their music to me during a particularly rough time. They are by far my favorite band and I take any chance to share them with anyone I can, therefore I've compiled a list of some of their best live performances over their career, original songs and covers.
1. Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Fleet Foxes)
This, of course, has to be first on the list. When the Söderberg sisters recorded this Fleet Foxes cover in the woods in 2008, it quickly gained popularity, some saying this is one factor that helped launch their career.
2. In The Morning (First Aid Kit)
First Aid Kit performing an original song in Shoreditch, London in 2009. I chose this performance mainly because it perfectly represents their perfect harmonies.
3. America (Simon & Garfunkel)
The sisters were asked to perform a song at the Polar Music Prize in 2012, in honor of Paul Simon winning the prize. The ceremony took place in Sweden and of course they picked their favorite Simon & Garfunkel song to perform. They also received a well deserved standing ovation from Mr. Simon Himself.
4. Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez)
First Aid Kit performed this amazing cover of Joan Baez for Google Play at Lollapalooza 2012.
5. Emmylou (First Aid Kit)
Emmylou is a song Klara and Johanna wrote together when they were 14 and 16 years old, inspired by the music of Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, they say this song is about the magic of singing with someone you love. They performed this song at the Polar Music Prize in 2015 for Emmylou Harris herself, and actually moved hers to tear with this performance.
6. War Pigs (Black Sabbath)
Though First Aid Kit is categorized as a folk band this performance of War Pigs by Black Sabbath at the Way Out West festival in 2015 is definitive proof that the sisters can seamlessly flow through genres without constraints, making this one of their best live performances to date.
