2017 Firefly is now OVER. Was it worth the money to go? Everything is what you make it.
At a first glimpse of the Firefly set list, some people would say it really isn't worth the money to go. Aside from the headliners, the typical "Firefly crowd" wasn't very interested in attending this year.
For many people, most of the musicians on the list were smaller, unrecognizable bands. Buying a ticket without knowing most of the line up was a huge risk many didn't want to take. Since I pre-ordered tickets last year, I took the risk with the line up and decided to go. With months of researching the different bands on the list, I created my ultimate Firefly music playlist and went on my way.
Now, I'm not much of a camper, but a few friends and I took the risk of camping this year. The camping environment at Firefly was super friendly! We met many people who were warm and welcoming. They even offered us food at neighboring campsites. Although the environment was friendly and welcoming, camping this year was also accompanied by the brutal heat and humidity. If you're not one to leave the house because of the heat and lack of AC, camping is NOT for you. If you're also not a fan of cold communal showers.. camping is also, NOT for you. If you are willing to experience the new world of camping at a music festival, then the welcoming environment at Firefly is worth the price. Everything you need is right on the campgrounds and you have no need to leave! I could say my music festival experience was well worth the price! For me, going to a music festival is all about hearing new bands and experiencing new music live. It was exciting for me to see a Firefly line up with so many musicians I haven't heard of. Many of them gave amazing live performances too, but aside from the new bands I had the chance to experience, I also spent most of my time waiting to be front and center for the headliners like Twentyone Pilots.
Most people think sitting in front of the Firefly mainstage to secure a seat in the front row is crazy and for the most part it is. If you can get over periods of dehydration and hunger... it iswell worth the wait. This year for Firefly 2017 my waiting allowed me to touch the drummer of Twentyone Pilots and hold his drum set, crowd surf a 30 Seconds to Mars concert, meet my favorite DJ Illuminum, and grab some AMAZING front and center photos. Yes - I got to see Kesha live!
Firefly 2017 did not disappoint. I made the most of the festival and left with life changing memories. The free spirit environment found at music festivals is a unique and inspiring one. If you've never experienced "the festival" atmosphere, I dare you to try it at least once. Let me know your experience!
