So let's start with the question, "What the heck is a finsta?"
A finsta, short for finstagram, is a combination of fake and Instagram. People, but typically girls, will get a second Instagram along with their real one (rinstagram?), to post any pictures or videos they please. This allows them to post embarrassing pictures, or anything that they wouldn't want people to see on their real Instagram. They will only allow their closest friends to follow them, and they only will follow other finstas. For example, here is my sisters.
(Yes, I was granted permission.)
There's always the bright side; which is that they're funny, full of personality, and are just made to make people laugh. I believe some of the kids who are making these (such as my sister) have very innocent intentions, and wouldn't ever see the harm in having a finstagram.
But there are many kids who could easily abuse this. Here are some things that could happen if you're not careful with your finstagram:
1. Your future career could be at stake.
People are going to stalk you on social media before you get a job; it's just normal in today's world. If, say, they come across your finstagram, (whether it's private or not), you might not get that job. If you're hiding some secret life on Instagram, they might assume the worst.
2. Screenshots are very much a thing.
Your finstagram might be private, but one of your "friends" could easily send your account around if they wanted to. "Oh none of my friends would do that though!" Honey, they could.
3. You're not Hannah Montana—you don't live a double life.
Having a real and fake Instagram is not only exhausting, it's misleading. I'm going to assume everything you post on the real account has nothing to do with your personality, it's just simply for show. I mean come on, we saw how hard Hannah Montana had to work at living a double life... is it really worth it?
After all, does anything on the Internet REALLY go away?
