We all just want to be home and not have to stress about what exam we need to study for next. Believe me, finding the motivation to write a few essays and study for a few test can be extremely hard right now. However, this isn't an excuse for us to start slacking off even when we really, really want to. With that being said, it's very important around this time of year to take care of yourself, both mentally and physically! Here are some tips;
Self care can be kind of critical at this point of the year. For starters I recommend going to a local class where you can either do yoga or meditate. Every Monday morning I go and meditate and it honestly is such a wonderful way to kick start your week with a clear mind and light heart. Next, make sure that you are eating right, and giving your body the nutrients it needs. I know sometimes it's hard to turn down mcdonald's especially if you're a "broke college student" but eating healthy study snacks such as hummus and carrots can be very beneficial and gives you the energy to study during dead week. Drinking plenty of water is also critical, keeping your body hydrated keeps you focused. Also if you're anything like me coffee is also a huge help. It's OK to treat yourself to an iced coffee from your favorite coffee shop during this time.
Along with eating right and going to yoga for your mind body and soul, a lot of people find going to workout and run to be a GREAT stress reliever. When you work out, your body releases toxins in your body that will increase your energy levels and make you feel overall like a happier version of yourself. I personally don't exercise as much as I should, but I definitely want to start!
Something that I like to do whenever I feel overwhelmed with stress from school and life, is journaling in my down time at night. Sometimes writing out your feelings and venting on paper and pen can feel extremely relaxing. I feel a little bit more relieved and like a weight as been lifted off my shoulders when I just put everything out there; after all, you're the only one reading it.
Something else that I like to do around this time of year is rekindling with old friends from home. Sending a simple "I miss you text, and can't wait to see you!" and starting up a conversation can be motivating, looking forward to seeing old friends is always a great feeling!
I hope you all benefit from a few of my handy tricks on taking care of yourself now that it is getting closer to finals. Good luck and happy holidays!
