Finishing The School Year Strong

As the school year comes to a close and the semester finishes up, there are are a few things to keep in mind to help motivate students to end strong.

First thing first,

Stop procrastinating! Every college student procrastinates, whether they're negatively affected by it or not. It can happen on any day or at any time because college is stressful and everyone needs a little break sometimes. It's either that Friday night that you really just want to hang out with your friends because the week has been so busy and a distraction is well needed. Or on Sunday, when you rush to finish everything because your weekend was so lit, and getting well acquainted with the rising of the sun and coffee is the only thing that's going to help you through college. Whatever the reason is, it can happen. So as the semester is coming to a close, procrastinating is what you should be doing least. Therefore, as finals approach and students are catching up to make sure every assignment is handed in, it wouldn't feel like such a burden. Every moment from here on out is essential including sleep, studying, and attendance in classes. This all starts with limiting the amount of time spent procrastinating.

Make Plans/Set Goals: Between classes and other responsibilities, it is difficult to manage time and fit every activity you want to do in a limited amount of time. Making plans beforehand and knowing what you want to do within a certain amount of time, will help get every task completed, unless it's totally absurd and cannot be done. Setting goals from now, like studying before a test and starting an assignment before the night it's due, will make it easier with finals begin because you'd be prepared and on time with assignments/readings. Of course, college is all about freedom and doing what you want, but at this moment to finish strong, setting goals can tremendously help. When you prioritize, it allows you to have more lead way so instead of rushing last minute you could relax and prepare for finals.

Don't Stop: Seeing as though we have a couple weeks left of school, many students decided not to try in a class anymore because they'd been failing the entire semester. But why give up now? Homework, tests, and take home quizzes are still being assigned so there is still a chance to pass the class, or in this case fail better. Then there are the students who have been working hard all semester and are just tired of working because college is truthfully exhausting and time consuming. And again, why give up now? You're almost there, giving up now is like working hard for the beginning of the semester was for no reason. Just remember in the end, hard work pays off.

So repeat after me:

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
