Whether it only took you a week or a month, you’ve ended the series you’ve been binge watching on Netflix. Now what? Here’s 10 steps on to how to recover from the beloved series finale and how to move on to another show.
1. Write a review about the show
Writing reviews can be fun! They help other people who are thinking about watching the show know whether or not it was worth watching. It can also help people steer clear of the show if it was awful.
2. Remove it from your list
You don’t need to watch it again, yet. If it’s a show that you can watch over and over again, like Friends or American Dad, keep it there. Otherwise, unless you plan on rematching it again, remove it. You probably have 50 other shows to watch on your list
3. Get out!
So you probably kept yourself in because you HAD to finish watching the show. Well, now it’s over. Put some jeans on, because all you’ve worn are pajama pants unless you had to go to work, and get out of the house. Go have an actual meal, not something you can eat from the comfort of your couch or bed. Bonus points if you go out and rack up 10,000 steps on your Fitbit.
4. Scroll through "the List"
That’s right. I have 53 things saved on my Netflix list. A few of them are movies, a few of them are Netflix series (shout out to Orange is the New Black!). Now you’ve got a decision to make. Do you want to just watch a movie for the night, or do you want to start binging another show?
5. Pro-Con List
While it might sound lame, a pro-con list on what show you want to watch next can help. Pro, Grey’s Anatomy has 11 seasons on Netflix. Con, Grey’s Anatomy is still running and it has 11 seasons on Netflix. Pro, you’ve already seen the first three seasons of Glee, meaning you only have three season to catch up on. Con, you probably forgot what happened last time you watched Glee. Pro, a movie on your list will be over in one night. Con, you have to find something to do with your day if it’s only 10 am when you put it on.
6. Find a website to pick a show for you
There are probably dozens of websites around the internet that will allow you to type in the shows you are debating between that will have a button to choose for you. You could also decide to be really bored and write them all down and pick a number and count down the list until you’ve crossed out all but one show. Either way, you have your choice.
7. Find a friend to watch the show with
Having a Netflix buddy is nice. Right now, it’s my dogs. They make nice Netflix buddies because they don't talk while it’s on and they don't tell you to turn it off. A parent makes a good Netflix buddy too because it gives you a chance to bond with them. Of course, a boyfriend or girlfriend is nice as well, but then you might not pay attention to the show. Binging on Netflix with a friend can also lead to drinking games. Find one and play it. You might want to re-watch the show again when sober, but the drinking part can be fun. Just drink responsibly.
8. Pop a bag of popcorn or buy a bag of chips
Snacking material is always necessary. I keep a bag of chips or box of Cheez-Itz by my bed. I always have to have a snack on hand.
9. Get comfy
Whether that means getting out of your work clothes and putting on pajama pants or reaching over for the remote, get comfy. Find a nice fluffy pillow and more pillows to prop yourself up if your on a bed. Grab a cozy blanket if you’re going to the couch or your favorite chair. Get all settled in, and get ready to hit the play button.
10. Press that play button. Pause when necessary.
Press that play button. Pause when necessary. Maybe take Netflix’s suggestion, “are you still watching?” as a chance to walk away from Netflix for a bit. Or not. There’s an option to keep watching for a reason. Watch, cry a little, and repeat steps one through ten.
