Tips to finding your career path that fits you.

A Message For The Undecided Major
Julia Smith

With the world becoming more competitive by the minute, I find more students my age more worried about fitting the mold. Often individuals don't follow their dreams of becoming a doctor because they think they are not smart enough or even put being a professional athlete aside because they feel they are not strong enough. Many blame it on the politics in a certain workforce or thrown in the "The I'm not pretty enough." But the worst thing to say about yourself is "I'm not good enough."

Why are you not good enough?

It's much easier to avoid even trying to achieve your goal because many are afraid of failure or the hard work it takes to get there. The truth is no matter how good you are at something, you always have to work on your craft, revamp your methods with the times, and keep progressing. For example, There may be the best doctor out there that has been in the force for fifty plus years. He may not be able to share his talents because he is uneducated on how to work with new advancements in technology or the new ways of communication. Everything matters. So know that whatever you do takes work and just because you are not good at something now doesn't mean you can never get there.

What am I good at?

Not to brag about myself, but, many people come to me and often ask how I know what I want to do at life, I have it figured out, and that my path seems pretty clear. Sure I have a good idea, but the key thing to achieve this mindset is two things...

First, start small. Ask yourself, "what am I good at"? Often times this can be as small as talking or baking. Start with one word and branch from that. For example, I like to talk which means I can communicate, which means I can give presentations which fall under many degrees. Even if like something so small it can branch into something huge and beneficial to the world.

Second, elaborate. So I'm from Michigan and this new chain just opened up and all they sell is bunt cakes. Who would think that one item would be so big? The chain markets well is aesthetically pleasing, has free samples, and tastes amazing. Anything can be possible, just know how to approach your audience to believe in your vision.

Work on it

Sure not everyone has all the money in the world to open up a five-star restaurant, but nothing comes easily with a little investment and patience. Usually, nothing works out the first time but doesn't mean your idea can be revamped and come from a different approach. Surprisingly, something very helpful is...

Ask for support

This may be from family members, your community to help you spread the word, build contacts, ask for advice with people within your field, and absorb as much information as possible. Even the worst advice can be the most helpful in helping you construct your career.

Make the mold fit YOU

It's funny to see how many people would rather blend in with trends than let their individuality shine through. The only way to be noticeable in this competitive world is to stand out and make yourself noticed. The world is always looking for something new and something fresh and you could be that person! No dream is too big or too small and sooner or later your "undecided" will be even greater than you imagined!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
