If you're a college student, you've probably had at least a few mental breakdowns. If you're a college senior, that number is significantly higher. For the last three years, I would go a little crazy thinking about classes, my GPA, and nabbing a great job for the summer. Now, in my final year, I have the added pressure of finding my future career. I like to think that everything will work out in the end, of course, and the worrying is all for nothing. However, it's still a looming concern.
This is really just one example of how stressful life can be, though. I know that my future career will come with its stressors and as I venture further into the real world, I'll be met with so much more. Through all stages of life, some kind of stress will always be present. I know I still got some time to go before I can really be considered experienced in anything, but I feel like I have a good idea on how to handle the stress that life throws you. What's really helped me get through college was finding something I was really passionate about. From freshmen year until now, that thing was the piano. I make a point to go play at least once a week at our school's music center. It's relaxing, fun, and the perfect way to unwind after a tough week of tests and work. I also love to write. Putting ideas to paper has always been exciting and enjoyable to me, so naturally it's a great de-stressor. These are what work best for me. They are things I'm extremely passionate about and I know I will continue to practice them for as long as I live. I can't imagine going more than a few days without playing piano or working on a story. No matter what I do with my life, I will always find time to add these activities in.
So, this is my weekly advice to all of you. Regardless of where you are in life, stressful situations are something you just cannot avoid. Finding something you're passionate about is the best way to handle these scenarios. Not only is it great for taking your mind off your worries, it also allows you to incorporate something you love dearly into your life. Some people find their passion to be music. Some find it to be photography or drawing. It could even be exercise or doing marathons. Everyone has their own passions. As life goes on, it's important to keep our passions alive and well. They are what makes us the happiest and are sometimes what keeps us sane. Whatever you're passionate about, make sure it always has a place in your life. Never let your passions fade.
