We live in a society that constantly tells us that we need to be living in the fast lane, that we must always be on the go, and that we always have to be jumping from one spot to the next. Society never really tells us that we need to take a step back, slow down and actually take a look around at everything that is being shoved in our faces. I'm guilty of it, and you, dear reader, are just as guilty of always jumping from one moment to the next without any breather. So, how can we take a step back? How can we get back to healing? By reducing the noise that blares outside our windows.

DETERMINE IF SLOW LIFE OR SIMPLE LIFE IS FOR YOU

These two different lifestyles tend to overlap in several aspects but at the end of the day they have different affects on the lifestyle that you ultimately lead.

DETERMINE YOUR VALUES & LIVE BY THEM

This is already self-explanatory, what are your values? What is it that you believe in? What is something that you do not tolerate or that you feel violates your values?

CURATING SOCIAL MEDIA

Do a deep clean of all of the social media platforms you are a part of and get rid of all of those that do not align with your values and the lifestyle that you wish to project. Want a more positive aspect? Follow body positive groups. Want a more natural and ethical approach? Follow influencers who promote this type of lifestyle.

DITCH THE PHONE (SOCIAL MEDIA TOO!)

One of the major things that tends to contribute to the constant noise in our life is our phones. Constantly being hooked to them makes it difficult to socialize with others, to be in the moment, to see everything around us and to enjoy life for what it is. While phones have advanced into something that we could only have dreamt of as kids, they have also taken us away from our loved ones as well. Take a day off from your phone, and just enjoy life.

SNOOZE

When we were kids we did not enjoy taking naps, but now as adults we are constantly tired and find it hard to stay awake. Our bodies are trying to tell us that we need to take a moment and relax, crawl onto the couch or into bed and take a nap, and without any guilt about it. Naps are great and many cultures around the world advocate for a nice nap in order to feel rejuvenated for the rest of the day.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
