The Struggle Of Finding Ways To Keep Yourself Busy While Being Quarantined

This pandemic brings a lot of time to yourself, but that is in no way a bad thing. In all honesty, I needed something like this to happen (not to this extent, however) so I could catch up on all the big and little things I have put off for another day. Well, the day(s) has arrived and you have nothing but time on your hands, so get to work!

Instead of waking up each morning dreading the day of boredom you are going to have, make a list of things to do. Whether that be around the house, both inside and outside, or learning a new hobby that you have always wanted to pick up. Even with limited places to go, there are still a number of things you can do.

I for one have taken this time to clean my entire room, top to bottom. I have rearranged my closest, moved furniture around my room, hung up new curtains and shower curtains and even repainted my desk. All those things are worth at least a couple of days of staying busy.

When the sun is out, you have even more options of things to do just outside your door. I have taken this time to do some landscaping around my house to spruce it up with spring arriving. If you think you have nothing to do landscaping-wise, plant some flowers or make a garden, this way you are staying busy and giving yourself a little tan. I have gotten the niche of painting and decided to clean up my deck and repaint some of the chipped areas on it to pass my time. I even ordered tiki torches to place around it.

Some other things you could do on a nice day is going for a run. Who said you can't stay fit with no gyms because there is an entire gym outside and to make it even better, it's free! I have never seen more people outside than I do right now during this time. People are out walking their dogs three times a day or taking in the beauty of nature by going on a walk. With the parks being closed, it does make it a little more difficult finding places to go while outside, but if you do not have a sidewalk to run or walk on, drive somewhere that does.

There is no excuse to wake up and die of boredom during this time because there are endless amounts of things to do, even on rainy days. Don't waste your day dreading every second. Catch up on some work or watch a new show you've been dying to see. When you think you have run out of things to do, think again and just look around and I bet you will find something in no time.

Whether you are an early bird or a late sleeper, just remember that there are plenty of things to keep you busy all the while still having fun in your home. Stay safe and have fun!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
