While brainstorming topics to write about, I found myself constantly typing "article ideas" into Google for a little boost. Coming across a list of 101 topics to write about, I realized I could write about any one of them easily. When I told my boyfriend about the article, he responded, "I don't want to read about the 101 things everyone always talks about, I want to read about the 102nd that isn't one of the typical subjects."
His comment made me realize that we are too often simply writing and talking about common ideas that everyone else is discussing. Sometimes these articles and conversations are beneficial, but they can also just be base level, dead-end discussions.
The 101 Topics to Write About can, without a doubt, help give you ideas, but we should all strive to talk about things that aren't being actively discussed. From these prompts, we can broaden the topic, discuss current events and really work to have conversations that will help ourselves and others expand our minds.
We can use this same principle in our lives every day. Instead of just watching the news and going about your day, think about the different questions that may not have been discussed. Find something more that you can take from things.
By doing this, we can all help ourselves learn and grow, and by sharing these ideas, we can do the same for others. We can recognize concepts that we wouldn't have originally noticed and this will help us to expand our knowledge beyond what we thought we could.
As a college student, many times I find myself just taking in the materials that I'm provided with and not really thinking of and asking my own questions. If I never try to think outside of the box, I will never find a higher understanding of what I am learning about.
We should use the topics that intrigue us and search for a deeper meaning and understanding. Talk about the details and feelings that aren't openly discussed. Use more than just what you're given and find more meaning in these everyday events.
Use your mind to think about and recognize what isn't being actively discussed. Ask questions that other people aren't asking, and always strive to discover the 102nd topic that is out of the ordinary. With this goal, we may discover things that we didn't even know were out there to be discovered.
