Ever since I went off to college in a different state, I have wanted a partner in crime. Someone to go on adventures with, whether it is an adventure of Netflix or a nice hike on the Chattahoochee. I miss the days when my solace was found in spending time with my furry friends. You see before my college experience; I had a horse, dog, and a cat. Being in college makes you realize how much you miss your best friends. I mean those adorable fuzzy friends that always seem to make your day better without even trying. So below you will find some amazing places to adopt a dog in Atlanta.
1. Great Pyrenees Rescue Atlanta
2. Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelter
Furkids is Georgia's largest no-kill animal shelter. In other words when you adopt a dog from them you are helping save another dog from a kill shelter. According to Furkids, Marilyn (the dog pictured above) "and her brother Elvis came to Furkids from a high kill animal facility. They are adorable, playful puppies living in a foster home until they find forever homes of their own. Marylin is energetic and smart. She can sit on command as long as there aren't too many distractions. Marylin’s foster mom is working on leash-training her. She will jump obstacles up to 24" high while on a leash! Marilyn loves to play but will often roll onto her back and let you rub her tummy. Elvis is her best friend. When she's bored, she will bark or swat at him until he plays with her." Furkids is a great place for someone that is just looking for that friend and not a certain breed. Please go check them here.
3. Paws Atlanta
Is a shelter that does not receive any funding from the government, so if you don't want to adopt donate! I want to introduce you to Gucci, the dog featured above, according to Paws Atlanta, "Gucci is ridiculously sweet. He looks at us with his enormous, pleading just-a-little-taste-of-that-cookie eyes and we just hand over the whole box of Trefoils. Resistance is futile. At 5, Gucci prefers the quiet life, but he still has some "play" in him. He loves a nice belly rub and enjoys strolling right beside you. He will do just about anything for a treat and already knows some basic commands. It doesn't hurt that he has the most epic pointy Yoda ears ever. We love this guy with the fancy name and the humble, sweet soul." If you are interested in Gucci or any other dogs supported by Paws Atlanta, I hope that you are able to find your furever friend. If you are unsure about adopting a dog please wait until your uncertainty dissipates. If you are wanting a dog, but know you can't have one for long term, consider fostering one.
