Finding The Silver Lining Among Stormy Clouds

Keeping your head up when life goes and gets tough.

Finding The Silver Lining Among Stormy Clouds

Life is hard sometimes. Really hard.

The past few weeks haven't been the greatest for me. First I received the unfortunate news that my Aunt had passed away and shortly after that I heard that my mom's been sick lately. A few days after that I got hit with a few hundred dollars worth of an overpriced speeding ticket. Sure a speeding ticket isn't all that bad, but keep in mind that I'm on the budget of a broke college student attending a college that charges a small fortune for tuition and I'm trying to pay that all on my own with the help of a few scholarships, so money isn't exactly easy to come by. A few weeks after that I get another surprise in the form of a whopping bill from the Cashier's Office at Baylor. I had to pretty much empty my feeble little bank account for that and I have another bill coming in a few weeks. As soon as I think that things can't get any worse, the world decides to prove me wrong. The day when I was supposed to be headed home for Thanksgiving my truck decides it wants to go and break down. To top it all off, I found out that I didn't get the job I had been working hard to get.

So here I am, jobless, moneyless, foodless, stuck at school Thanksgiving week with no vehicle and no family meal for Thanksgiving. Like I said, life is hard sometimes, but in the midst of all my failures, struggles, doubts, and disappointments, there is someone who never lets me down.

I have a loving God who stands by my side through thick and thin. It has been hard for me to keep my eyes focused on the future and keep my head held high, but luckily for me I have a God who keeps my eyes focused on him and not only does he keep my head held high, but he shoulders my weakness and makes my burdens light. If you're going through a rough time, just know that you're not alone. There are many others experiencing struggle with you on a day to day basis and you are not on your own through it all. You will always have people who care for you and want you to succeed and you will always have a Loving God who is walking with you every step of the way. I know we hate to hear things like this, but keep your head up because no matter how bad things seem right now they will always be better in the end.

Always remember, you have God who will provide you with peace beyond understanding and wants you to succeed. Things may seem bad now, but everything has a purpose.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
