Finding Your Purpose In Life

Have you found your calling yet?

Have you found your calling? This is extremely important to me because I struggled to find my calling. I felt that I was too old to learn the activities that I enjoyed doing. Usually, when you look at people who are involved in activities, they start off at a younger age. There was a time where I gave up because it was so hard to find something that I enjoyed doing without my age being an issue. Many do not know this, but for awhile I was a part of an acting program. I did monologs, workshops, auditions etc. Eventually, my age became an issue because the workshops given were mainly for younger kids. So I decided to give acting a break. As time went on I started playing piano. I took piano lessons for about one and a half years. It was easy for me to catch on to all of the chords and everything. I then stopped because there was such a big difference in age between me and the children in the program. Once I stopped the piano lessons I continued to teach myself.

Later on, I took some advice from my mom that since I couldn't really be a part of the acting program... why not write my own material. From then on I starting writing short stories, an inspiration book and even starting this blog. Everything started to come together. I found one of my callings! I learned that when it all came down to it, it's not about how old you are, it's all about if you have a passion for it. Acting wasn't my calling because if it was my passion, I would've continued no matter how old I was. I do wish to continue playing the piano someday because I love music! Yes, you can have more than one calling. As I continue my journey in college I plan on finding more things that I have a passion for.

Do you know your calling? If not, that's OK. It is going to take some time! You never know, your passion can take you far in life! Below are a few tips that you can take in that will help find your passion.

  • Find out what interests you.
  • Look back on life and think about your callings that you have done in the past.
  • Ask yourself "What is my calling?" and write as many responses that you can think of.
  • Get some feedback from others, ask them what they think.
  • Use your values to guide you (qualities, skills etc.) and how can they help you?

Why finding your calling is important?

Your calling is important because no matter what your gift is, it may have a positive impact on the person. Whether you're a motivational speaker or an artist, your craft is going to speak to someone. We all have that "special gift." It's all about going outside your box and finding what you are good at.

Remember, your purpose matters!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
