Finding Peace In The Midst of Pain

You may be down, but you're not out.

If you're a new freshman, a junior in high school, a 45-year-old woman, or any kind of human, actually, this article is for you. Life doesn't seem fair sometimes...most of the time. It throws us curveballs all the time, and it makes us question our worth as human beings. Sometimes, things just hit us out of nowhere when we are least expecting it, and it turns our world upside down. Our lives are constantly changing. So, in a world where things change so often and so rapidly, how can we have peace?

I wish I could fill this article with wisdom and inspiration and send you on your way. I wish I could help you pick up your pieces. I wish I knew all the answers to your questions. But the truth is, I am only human, and I can only do so much. I can, however, tell you how great our God is.

You may be down, but you're not out. Do you know who is fighting for you? Do you understand the strength and the power of your father in Heaven?

When you look into the mirror and see someone who is less than perfect, God looks at you and calls you worthy of his love and grace.

When your circumstances look hopeless from your point of view, God sees a light at the end of the tunnel.

When you are surrounded by negativity, God radiates his love.

We sometimes get wrapped up in our lives and think that God has left us. The thing about God, though, is that he has never left us! His presence and his love is always there. See, God is closer than our thoughts. He is closer than our very breath. The common thought is that we must act (sing, pray, etc.), and then God's presence and love comes. That is not true. God's presence and love was there before we did anything, because we cannot earn unconditional love. We can either choose to accept his love, or not to. Regardless, he still chooses to love us!

What I'm saying is that sometimes, in the midst of our mess, we choose not to be in God's presence. Yes, it's hard to remember his goodness while we are facing pain, but take heart, because God will not lead you into a fire and leave you there to burn. God will lead you through the flames and you will come out refined! He calls you his child.

This is why I am joyful and even at peace when things take a wrong turn. Sure, my human reaction says otherwise, but that's because I'm a human. I have to remind myself of God's goodness. That's what gets me through. I remember God's promises.

If you are facing a rough time, I encourage you to remind yourself of who God is, who God has called you, and his promises.

God's grace is abundant, and he will never leave you hanging. Have faith, and trust in him.

Have a great week!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
