Finding Our Missing Pieces
Katie Pyle

In our journey through life, every day and every milestone is a step that helps us become who we are meant to be. We start our journey with a strong foundation of pieces, in my case, I would consider these pieces to be my family. They were part of life's journey from the very start, for the good and the bad. Everyone has their own kind of foundation, the strong people who were the building blocks and the people who gave you the inspiration to grow and continuously become a better you.

As we grow older and continue our journey we gain and lose 'pieces' that contribute to who we are. We make friends who make life a little bit brighter and we also lose some along the way, but we've all had an impact on one another's life in one way or another. We lose pieces of our life's puzzle so that we are able to gain more that fit the growing version of ourselves better than we could have ever imagined.

The more time passes and the more we experience, the more we realize what we have and how to truly appreciate all of life's situations. The good times lead us to better while giving us happy memories. The 'bad' times give us lessons as to how to grow and move through the more challenging times. With all of these events, we can't help but be thankful for our foundation and our support system around us.

Just when we think that we have a happy balance of people and activities in our lives, thinking we have the best situation possible, we can sometimes find surprise 'pieces'. Someone walks into our life and suddenly a piece we didn't know we were missing, is the piece we needed to have a happiness better than we have ever known before. This piece suddenly makes us realize that we were searching for more before in ways or places that didn't completely fulfill our needs or desires in life.

We should always be independently happy with ourselves and the life that we have created for ourselves. We also need to remember that there's nothing wrong with finding the toppings to our ice cream of life, the extra pieces that make us overflowing with joy. We can be whole on our own but there's always room for a little extra happiness in our lives because who knows what kind of a role we are meant to play in people's lives as well as vice versa. Everyone is a unique independent person and when world's collide some truly wonderful things can happen.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
