Finding The Meaning In A Rap Song

While rap songs are typically vulgar and degrading, there are always a song that speaks out once in awhile.

"Beat the odds, do numbers, and remain humble" - Used To This by Future

The original reference to these lyrics is simple: a young man raised in a difficult situation and still came out successful. You might be asking yourself how someone finds meaning from some rap song, but I did it. These words honestly remind me that no matter how people view me as a person, I need to stay positive and continue to be the bright shining person that I am. I am no less of a person because of what someone else thinks.

"I give you my whole heart till there ain't nothing to give." - Used To This by Future

Here I'm reminded of how much I expect of people, and yet get nothing in return. We can be so quick to trust people and desire the attention but fall short-handed. I also feel the effort and dedication I put into people in these lyrics. I know I do too much for others, but in the long run, I am okay with it.

"Treat my brother's kids like they one of my kids " - Used To This by Future

I love the idea behind these words. It shows so much love and compassion for others. Treating someone like family even though they aren't is such an honor. We would do anything for someone in our family, so to say you think of someone the same way is powerful. This also brings me to the fact that sometimes friends can be more of a family than your blood relations.

"Never looking back on i, we did what we did" - Used To This by Future

Regrets can easily eat us alive. Finding it in ourselves to accept our mistakes is a beautiful thing. I know the people who come into my life do so for a reason, and everyone brings a lesson. I am okay with what I have done in my past and you should be too. Sometimes it is hard to accept other people's flaws too, but we must remember they are human and are not perfect. I just love the lesson here of accepting what you have done.

"Could never find time for the people I miss" - Used To This by Future

With college always being so busy, I find it easy to neglect friendships. It pains me to be unable to make time for people who are important to me. Spending time with good friends and family is key to a healthy life. It's also a two-way street and sometimes others become too busy for me. We always have to remember that people never do this on purpose!

I love finding meaning within songs. It gives me a purpose to obsess over a song that fits a current situation. I hope that you also discover the meanings in songs from time to time and can relate. Music will always be an emotional outlet for me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
