Finding Love In A World Of Hookup Culture
Town News

Why can I manage to talk to 15 different guys at one time, but yet still haven't managed to get myself a boyfriend?

The million-dollar question.

In the world we live in today, it's all focused around "Hook-up Culture". Why can't we take it back to the days where courting was still a thing? When people showed up on your doorstep to ask you out rather than shooting you some irrational message on Tinder?

Don't get me wrong -- it's not like I haven't had my fair share of hookups myself. But in the end, I still want a boyfriend. I'm sick of the ever-going chase of having to use so many different social media apps to find a nice boy, take him on a date, only to find out all he wants is sex. It's frustrating to no end.

Who do we have to blame for this besides, of course, ourselves? There's social media apps on our phones, our laptops, our tablets, and other electronic devices that are to blame, too. So thank you Tinder, Grindr, Her, Badoo, Scruff, and so on and so forth, for setting the tone in world that hook-up culture is the newest trend.

I've seen this firsthand countless times. Recently, I have realized that being a college student, the easiest way to meet people that would be possible candidates for a suitable partner was to download those apps. I too have fallen into hookup culture and see myself wanting to get out of it more and more each day.

I want to be able to take a nice guy on a date and at the end of the night when I kiss them goodbye, they not expect me to slip them a room key to a hotel room or in this case, the passport to my dormitory. I want to be able to kiss them goodnight and them ask, "When's the next time I'll see you?" I want them to ask to go out on another date. In the end, I want to be able to say I could see myself settling down with.

Is it too much to ask to find someone else in this world who might just want to find love and not just a hook-up? Having to put myself out there on so many platforms is a pain in the ass.

I'm really just a southern gentleman looking for love in a world of hookup culture.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
