Finding Encouragement In God's Word

We are weak, but He is strong.

We live in a world that tells us to move fast and to have big ideas and dreams. If we slow down, we will fall behind and that's not acceptable. We have to keep up with everyone else, whether it be success, grades, or athletics. Eventually we lose ourselves and need someone or something to pick us back up. For me, I have found my strength and encouragement in the Bible.

These past few weeks have been tough for multiple reasons, most of which were out of my control. But I like to believe that everything happens for a reason and God controls everything around us. Sometimes I need to be knocked down so that I get up with a stronger faith than I had before. I wanted to be able to handle everything in my life without any help. It worked for a few days, but then fell apart. We like to do things on our own, but we are small and can only take so much. It's okay to ask for help when you need it and it's okay to admit that you're struggling. As things started getting out of hand, I started slipping up. It was exhausting. I looked up verses of encouragement for college students and found 2 that brought me some peace.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."-Matthew 11:28-30

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."-Matthew 6:34

These 2 verses are reminders that God will give us peace and strength when things are tough and we shouldn't stress about what tomorrow will bring. Thinking about the future is a good thing, but it can also become a bad thing if you allow it to stress you out and keep you from enjoying the little things that are happening around you. God knows what each day will hold before we wake up in the morning and He keeps us wrapped in his love and strength. Little prayers throughout the day and noticing the beauty of His creation will help keep you going when the world is moving fast. Don't be overwhelmed by everything thing that is on your to-do list. You are one person and can only handle so much on your own. That's why we need our faith to keep us going. Just take things a day at a time and look to the Bible for help. Your life will start to run smoother and life is too short to worry about tomorrow.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
