“Just keep waiting, just keep waiting, just keep waiting, waiting, waiting. What do we do we wait, wait, wait.” How dare you, Disney, make us wait until our childhood was long gone to release this anticipated movie? How dare you, Disney, still make us so excited for this children's movie even though we are 20+ years old?
It was about a month or two ago when I was scrolling through Facebook like any other day and I stumbled upon a movie trailer post with the caption, "Finally (fish emoji)." I thought to myself, could it be? After all these years the rumors are actually true? I then proceeded to click on the video, and that's when I heard it, the famous "Finding Nemo" music. Of course I watched the whole preview. By the end of the two-minute trailer I had already laughed three times, teared up, and spoke whale. I could not believe how excited I was for "Finding Dory." I didn’t even know I could be this excited for a children’s movie until I saw my little childhood blue fish friend setting out on a new journey.
Now we are only two weeks away from going on another adventure in the deep blue sea. What new friends are we going to meet? Is Dory still going to weekly "fish are friends, not food" meetings? Has Marlin come up with any new clown fish jokes? Did Nemo touch any new “butts?” Will Dory still mess up Nemo’s name? Can you believe Crush will be 163 years old and probably still young? Did the fish from the dentist’s aquarium find a way out of the bags? Will Dory find her family? Will Dory's family remember her or will their hereditary short-term memory loss cause them not to? Will we actually have to find Dory like we did with Nemo or are we "finding" Dory's past? Obviously I should find a way to control my excitement, but why should I? I know I won't be the only 20+-year-old there at opening night with a bag of popcorn and friends. We have 13 years of anticipation built up inside us, there is no way our adult selves can find a way to contain this excitement. The only thing we will be finding this summer is Dory. Even if we have to just keep swimming.
I'm ready for the adventure, Dory (spoken in whale).
