Finding Balance In The Middle Of The Chaos

It's the second week of school, and I feel like I have already been back here for a month. The number of commitments I have had has definitely left me feeling overwhelmed. Even though the commitments I have are all things that I enjoy doing, it is still important to find balance.

This morning when I woke up, I was having a conversation with one of my roommates, and it was a much-needed conversation. We started talking about how much we both have to do for school, and work, and every other little thing. After a few minutes of ranting about life, we started to talk about balance and the importance of it. I have learned that it is OK to be busy. It is OK to have commitments and responsibilities, but on top of all of that, it is much more important to take care of yourself.

I notice that when I am not taking care of myself I am less equipt to take care of other people or other things in my life. I have a great routine in the morning, that contributes to balance. I wake up, eat breakfast, make my coffee and then I go into my room and read my bible.

Diving into the Word is a way that I can find a balance in my life. By refocusing on what I am really here for, I feel way less stressed when it comes to tackling my days. The key to keeping your balance is knowing when you've lost it. I am the type of person who runs best on a schedule. I like having my days planned out, that way if something goes not the way it was planned I can see what type of time I have in my day to fix it. Having a balanced lifestyle is beneficial especially for your college years.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
