The Importance Of Finding Your Passion

What's your passion — what's the thing deeply rooted in your being that keeps you awake and dreaming at night?

God gives us passions to glorify His name. I don't think someone just becomes a doctor or a teacher; rather God looks deep into the passions of our hearts and then provides opportunities for us to use those passions to Honor Him!

Now, to find those passions is what seems hard, and it is not always easy, or straightforward. You have to look down deep within yourself to find what is truly in your heart. Now, you can enjoy doing several different things, but that doesn't mean those are all your passions. In high school, I was involved in every activity I could be — music, leadership, acting, sports, academics — however, only one a small portion of what I did was actually my passion.

The struggle is finding what you enjoy more than anything else. For me that is performance, (get me on a stage acting, singing, or dancing and I'm good to go). Standing in front of people doesn't bother me; in fact, it excites me! When I walk onto a stage the whole world fades away; it's just me — I'm one with my soul. Now, I have been lucky enough to have discovered my passion early in life. There are many people who don't have any idea of what their passion may be. And that may be you, so I'm asking you to look within your heart, talk with the Lord and ask Him to help you find the passion of your heart and to give you opportunities to use it for Him. "The things you are passionate about are not random. They are your calling." (Fabienne Fredrickson)

We were made in the image of God, with passions and desires. We were given specific gifts, and it's our job to find them.

Ask yourself these questions:

"What am I good at doing?"

"What do I enjoy doing?"

"At what stages of my life have I felt the most fulfilled?"

"What was I doing during those stages?"

And most importantly ask yourself:

"What is stopping me from chasing after the passions of my heart?"

I know there is a passion inside of you, because it makes you who you are. Maybe you're ignoring the nudge because of fear — fear of being judged, fear of failure, fear of letting someone down. Or maybe you just haven't taken the time to sit down and ponder what is the Lord would have you do. Whatever is holding you back, get over that hurdle, find out what is stopping you and move it out of your way. Pablo Picasso said, "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."

You don't have to be a doctor or a teacher, you can be you. The unique and amazing person God made you out to be. Don't worry about what others think of you; don't worry about what others tell you to do. Because in the end all that matters is what God thinks of you, and as long as he approves of your choices nothing else matters. Find what you love to do, be able to wake up in the morning and say "I get to go to work today!" not "I have to." Because if you love your job are you ever actually working?

"Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your hearts." (Psalm 37:4)

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
