Find Your Happy Place

Because we all need a place that we can go to when we're beyond stressed.

Find Your Happy Place

Everybody needs a happy place. Whether you're stressed about work, or school, or your home life. Whatever is causing you stress in your life, you need a happy place to get away from it. Your happy place is the one place in the world that you can escape from the world.

According to urban dictionary, a happy place is: "The mental state achieved when one wants to avoid the unpleasant or uncomfortable. Everyone's happy place is different, and usually consists of the things that make them joyous."

Everyone's happy place is different. Your happy place may be your room. Or on the top of a mountain. Or on a edge of a wave on a surfboard. Or in the middle of nowhere on a snowmobile. Your happy place could be anywhere in the world. Your happy place could be with other people, or completely and utterly alone. Your happy place could be two minutes from home, or thousands of miles away. The only criteria: it makes you so happy you forget about all of your other worries.

I have found my happy place; or rather, it found me. My happy place is my camp on Sandy Pond. No place makes me happier. I swear that if I were to travel the world, visit every place that's on my bucket list (Italy, Greece, Ireland, Paris), I would still never find a place that makes me as happy as my camp makes me. My camp is the one place on planet earth that I can go to and forget about every stress in life. My camp is the one place I can go to that will fill me with such happiness that I could never leave and I would be completely content.

The reason why you need a happy place is simple: when nothing is going right, when life seems to be beating you up, when you're stressed out of your mind; you need a place that you can go to that will make everything right again. And even when you can't go there right in that stressful moment, you can think about it, and peace will fill your thoughts.

So if you haven't found a happy place yet, go searching. Go searching for that one place that makes you feel like you're floating. That one place where the air seems to be filled with some sort of substance that makes you feel almost drunk on happiness. Search for that place, and when you find it, hold on to it.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
