Where You Can Find the Best Muffins around Harvard Square

I will be completely honest in saying that I have an unhealthy obsession with muffins - they are by far my favorite food and I probably eat an average of 4 per week. My obsession has brought me to various cafes and food places, eager to find the "best" muffin around. Luckily, Harvard Square has a plethora of restaurants that serve delicious muffins, many of which I have had the joy of eating. From my adventures, I have compiled a list of some of the best muffins that you can have in Harvard Square.

1. Starbucks

Starbucks is popular mainly for its coffee and over-priced food, but its muffins are actually quite delicious. There is truly nothing better than a warm, crumbly muffin.

2. Petsi Pies

Petsi Pies muffins have a really amazing homemade taste and appearance. If you're willing to walk a little farther down Mass Ave, I would strongly recommend Petsi Pies. They also have pies so it's kind of a no-brainer that you should go there.

3. Mike's Pastry

The picture may be a bit deceiving, but this muffin was ginormous. But that still didn't stop me from devouring it in 0.3 seconds.

4. Crema Cafe

Crema Cafe's muffins are a bit more expensive than other muffins in the square, but they have a really unique taste. Crema also has a really great vibe, making the perfect place to hang out and enjoy your muffin(s).

5. Darwin's Ltd

Darwin's has toasted muffins and they are fantastic.

6. Peet's Coffee and Tea

So I may just be late to the party but Peet's is actually a thing now and there are dozens of Peet's all around. So, if you're looking for a great muffin and possibly some solid coffee and tea you should hit up Peet's.

7. Au Bon Pain

If you're like me and you live on the edge of the Yard that borders Mass Ave, you probably find way too many excuses to pay for food rather than trek to Annenberg. Au Bon Pain offers a solid variety of muffins and they're all pretty delicious.

8. Greenhouse Cafe

Greenhouse Cafe offers a solid selection of muffins, including vegan options. I've had their delicious blueberry muffin, which was surprisingly infused with a hint of lemon that actually tasted kind of amazing. Also, you can use your BoardPlus at Greenhouse, so it's really a win-win.

9. Annenberg's banana walnut muffins

This may surprise you, but Annenberg's banana walnut muffins are actually fantastic. And they're also (technically speaking, not really) free.

10. Wegmans

The nearest Wegman's is in Chestnut Hill, and many of you probably won't go all the way to Newton just for muffins. But I would. Because Wegman's has the most incredible muffins your taste buds will ever have the pleasure of tasting.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
