Everyone has gone through some sort of heartbreak. And as we can all agree upon, it hurts. The term broken-hearted can be described in many different ways. Some people say it's like dropping a glass on the floor and watching it shatter.

Some days it's like a jack hammer breaking your heart up piece by piece. Maybe you put on a happy face and smile through the pain. Maybe you act like it doesn't bother you. But deep down you feel all alone.

There's other people out there that feel the same way, but the most important person that ever suffered the greatest was, Jesus Christ. He was nailed to the cross and beaten even though he showed his love to everyone.

Maybe you're an adult going through a tough divorce. Maybe you're a child whose parent left, or your children won't speak to you. Maybe you've lost a loved one. Or maybe you're like me, a teenage girl about to go to college who is experiencing heartbreak through broken friendships while trying to go off to college. Maybe you feel alone, but trust me when I say you're not. As hard as it may feel, we can find comfort in God's word! He didn't promise that life would be easy, but he gives us reassurance that we will be okay during those tough times.

1. God is near.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. - Psalm 34:18

2. God will strengthen you

You made me suffer a lot, but you will bring me back from this deep pit and give me new life. - Psalm 71:20

3. God is with you.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. - Isaiah 43:2

4. Hard times won't last forever.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. - Romans 8:18

5. God has a plan for life.

For I know the plans for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11

6. Don't give up.

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

While things are hard, comfort can always be found in the scriptures. What you see as broken God sees as beautiful so always remember to trust in him.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
