Now that finals week is upon us in 2016, I've already been planning out my winter break, having survived (or waited out) the recent blizzard conditions that plagued Grand Forks whilst knowing (grudgingly, I might add) that my hometown area has received little to no snow in the past week. In essence: I cannot wait to be home for the holidays! Inspired by the latest in unpredictable weather, and arguably the longest semester of my college career, here's what the process of leaving ND for my winter break is like as told by ABC's How to Get Away with Murder.
1. Getting ready for the morning for the last week of winter classes
It's currently -9°F out (without wind chill) and my room is 70°. Lovely...
2. Getting your car stuck in the snow the day after a blizzard, having to get to class, and finding out more snow is going to be on the way
3. Studying the weekend before final tests got me like...
4. When your professor literally tells you: "There's no way to study for this final"
Uh, what?
5. Showing up to the final for a class required to graduate
One more semester down.
6. When your professor tells you that you should keep studying up over winter break
7. Walking out of your last final exam
8. The long trip home with no scenery and nothing to do
I live in the tundra, I swear.
9. Getting asked about having "straight A's" after a very long semester of over 15+ credits
But, hey, I survived.
10. Asking for Christmas present ideas from friends
11. Being asked what you got someone for a gift when the holidays are weeks away
It's not a surprise if I tell you.
12. Waking up early over break and looking at the clock realizing you can sleep until after noon if you want
Not having a 9 AM class never felt so good.
13. Subsequently getting family lectures about sleeping in until after noon over break
14. Making holiday plans with your S.O.
15. When some of the Christmas cookies get burnt
A real tragedy.
16. Holiday shopping
17. Being asked to donate to causes you've never heard of while out shopping, etc.
18. Continuously failing at wrapping presents, so you put all the gifts in bags
19. When you hear "Dinner's ready" for your holiday meal
20. Getting asked why "you're not smiling" at all times because "It's Christmas"
21. Then the photo albums come out
22. And then the obligatory (and typically awkward) holiday photos
(Just take the picture already...)
23. Usually by hour 3 of 'quality' time...
24. Getting pulled into weird family arguments after too much quality time
25. Getting asked if I'm going to the other side's Christmas this year due to awkward family things
New traditions can be just as fun as old ones.
26. The inevitable prying into your love life via *quite* personal questions from the extended family you hardly talk to
Awkward - holiday is no longer merry, thanks for that.
27. Hearing about winning made-up awards or victories from past family events for the 100th time
Wasn't that in...2012 or something?
28. The never-ending jewelry commercials
Are these on loop? Get back to my Christmas movie.
