Finals Week: As Told By The Grinch

When you look through your calendar of everything you have to do in the next two weeks:

When you try to justify why you're too busy to go to your classes during dead week:

When your professor tells you they're not giving a final:

When your professor announces that your exam is scheduled for the Friday of finals week:

When you have to make sure to plan for your mental breakdown of the day:

When you try to cram all of the information from your textbook that you were supposed to read the night before the final:

When you're completely unprepared on the day of the test and you debate how bad your grade would be if you didn't show up:

When you immediately forget everything you crammed in your brain after the exam so that you can start cramming for next one:

When you're studying with a group and no one will stop talking:

When you try and fail to be original on your final presentation:

When you get assigned a final project on top of the final you already have for one class:

When you decide that eating sounds better than working even though you're not hungry:

When you have to make sure that you take a break for some me time every once in a while so you don't lose your mind:

When you struggle to think of how to start your first sentence on your paper:

When you have to pull an all-nighter to finish that last assignment that you procrastinated on:

When you finally get your grade up to the next letter grade and hope that you don't mess it up:

When your professor gives you an extension on the deadline for your final paper:

When you just can't handle the pressure anymore:

When you look in the mirror and realize that you've worn the same sweats three days in a row:

When you can't remember the last time that you saw sunlight:

When you finally go outside after being inside for days:

When you ace a final and you know it:

When you start taking your frustration out on everything else for no reason:

When your friends start bothering you to hang out while you are trying to study:

When you decide that you've spent too much time in isolation and deserve to go out and have some fun:

When you have to sort through all of your papers and doodles from the semester to find your notes:

When all of your friends are done with their finals and are celebrating but you still aren't finished with yours:

When you try to give yourself a pep talk before your test:

When you finally get to walk out of your last exam of the semester:

When you realize that you actually made it out of the semester alive:

When you have to say goodbye to all of your college friends for a whole month:

When you find out that there's a curve:

When you finally leave campus to go home for winter break:

When you get home and realize how soon the holidays are:

When Christmas finally arrives and you realize that it was all worth it:

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
