A Few Finals Week Reminders

You're not a failure, this doesn't define you, you'll make it through.

A Few Finals Week Reminders

If we're being honest, the whole concept of finals week is quite bizarre. You spend the semester constantly taking in new information, being tested on that information, and judging your self-worth by the numbers that come out of it. And the thing is, half of the classes that you're taking are completely irrelevant to what you've even chosen as your major.

There's a popular attitude about life that summarizes to, "It's all about the journey, not the destination." And if that's so highly regarded, then why is all of our emphasis placed on the destination? Why do we think finals week is anything more than a complete waste?

We can sit around and question the logic behind every crevice of the education system, but as much as we wish certain things weren't so, it's not our decision to make for the time being.

So while you're stressed out, pulling all-nighters, confused about whether you want to cry or scream, here's a few things you should remind yourself of.

You are more than your GPA. The little number that has been following you since day one will not be relevant once your college days are over. No one is going to be walking around with a 4.0 sticker on their forehead. Don't let your GPA define your success rate. And also..

At the end of the day, Cs get degrees. You don't need all As in every class to graduate and be successful, as long as you're passing the courses and get the diploma, that's the most important thing. It may be nice to brag that you have As in classes, but let's be real; some majors are harder than others, and as long as you're putting in the effort, you're doing awesome.

Your mental breakdowns aren't a sign of weakness or lack of ability. Everyone gets pushed to the extreme and, honestly, if you're not breaking down (or getting close) by the end of it, you're not trying hard enough. It's a sign of your work, perseverance and want to do well. Embrace it!

Sweatpants are completely acceptable. For some reason, people love to comment on appearances during finals week and there's often a lot of apologizing. You have nothing to apologize for. Go out and rock the bags under your eyes, mess buns, groutfits and sweats on sweats. You're comfy & who cares if you don't look 100 percent: no one should after pulling an all-nighter or stressing out to no end.

Second, third, fourth (etc.) dinners are nothing to be ashamed of. You're stressed and think food will help? Go for it. It's a week of torture — treat yo self.

It's OK to be in a bad mood. Everyone's stressed, tensions are running high and you shouldn't have the added pressure of feeling as if you need to be peppy or in the world's best mood. Those who matter will understand.

You don't have to study 24/7. Sometimes locking yourself away in your room or at the library for hours on end feels like you're accomplishing something, but in order to keep that momentum, you're going to need to take a breather. Don't feel as if your hour away is going to diminish your 15+ hours there.

It'll all be over soon. Finals week doesn't last forever, you only have it twice a year, and you're here now so that means you've survived it before. Keep pushing yourself to do your best and take a step back when you need it. You're so close!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
