The 5 Stages of Finals Week

Finals week is approaching and we still haven't studied, why? We are in denial.

The most dreaded and awful week of the semester is finally here. Finals week is definitely the leading cause to sleep deprived and brain dead college students. Although finals last one week, it seems as if the whole semester just flashes before your eyes. To best describe how most students feel during finals week, here is the 5 stages of finals week:

1. Denial

It is the weekend before finals and every one decides to go out or stay in and watch a season or two on Netflix. With students acting like it is just another casual weekend here on campus because they are in denial. Suddenly they realize come Sunday night that they have finals due this week. They are overly shell shocked and begin to question if this really happening?! This cannot be happening, is it really finals week?!

2. Anger

Reality has finally set in. The amount of time spent on doing anything but studying this weekend has driven you to the point of rage. How could you let this happen? All of your anger is fueled with the guilt of not doing your work and watching an entire season on Netflix instead. You take your anger and use it to crank out any last minute papers or studying you need to get done.

3. Bargaining

Finally, you were able to finish with approximately..... 2 minutes to spare. You walk in to your final looking like a pile of trash. Bags underneath your eyes, your hair isn't brushed, and you are wearing the same outfit you wore yesterday. You hesitantly approach your professor to hand them your exam or paper. You have the will of a thousand men behind you when you extend your arm out to give them your work. That is the moment you let out a faint whisper for him to give you pity points on how much you deserve a good grade because you need to pass this course.

4. Depression

Nothing beats the overwhelming fear and sadness that consumes your entire life after submitting your last finals. It seems like days have gone by since, yet it has been a mere 10 minutes after your walk to your dorm. The feeling that all the life and light has been sucked out of the air fills you. Your mind is completely dead as if all of the information you have ever taken in was just vomited out on your exam or paper. At this point, all you can do is cry and ask yourself, did I do enough?!

5. Acceptance

The day of all days has finally come. Logging on to your school account to see your final grade postings. Your hands are sweaty from pure nervousness, your heart is racing in anticipation, and you can hear your parents voices in the back of your mind yelling about having to retake a course if you fail. You enter in your information and sit waiting and waiting for the browser to load. Of course it is taking a thousand years because the school wifi is garbage. The page finally loads and here it is, the light at the end of the tunnel. Dean's List? Maybe next semester. Passing? Definitely. Raise that award up high, you earned it.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
