For most public schools, finals week is rapidly approaching. It baffles me why finals are at the very end of the school year when every student could not be more checked out. Everyone who goes to a school that is still in session is so ready for summer to begin. With these fun months quickly approaching, it is so stressful and at times nearly impossible to muscle through a two hour exam on the second to last day of school.
The teachers in my school expect us to do outstandingly well on our finals and devote our whole lives to studying. Yet, it is very hard to start studying when you have eight quizzes, two papers, and still have to learn two chapters of material in the last three days leading up to finals. If teachers expect us to devote all of our time to their finals, they should not give us so much work leading up to them. In addition, most teachers think theirs is the only class that you have and they then proceed to complain about how they have to grade five classes' finals.
If it were up to me, I would have finals a lot earlier, in the first week of June, so all of the students can actually get good grades and not stress as much. Then for the rest of the school year, the teachers should assign a final project to finish out the year. Not only would this cause less stress for all of the students, but students would actually try harder. At the very end of the year most students have given up because they just want summer to start and not to be cooped up inside all day studying for finals. Everyone would benefit from this, the teachers would be less pressured to have to grade exams in one day and students will have a much more stress-free experience while taking finals.
