It's FINALLY Basketball Season

It's what we have all been waiting for.

It's FINALLY Basketball Season

You know that feeling you get when you see a puppy? Or when you see a cute little kid? Or how about the feeling you get when you get really good news? Well…I have NEWS FOR YOU! It is FINALLY basketball season!

I feel like most people do not understand the struggle of going to a school without a football team. At Marquette, we only have one major sport. It is basketball. So when basketball season rolls around I, like many of you, feel like a kid in the candy store!

I mean who doesn't love food, friends, a winning team and MARQUETTE BASKETBALL?!

With the exhibition game on Monday, November 9, and the first game on Friday, November 13, I am confident in saying I will not be too focused on school this week… Why? BECAUSE IT IS BASKETBALL SEASON!

So let’s think about the upcoming season. We have six returning players, and a roster of 14 guys. This season we have one of the Big-East's best recruiting classes. The new kids on the block: Henry Ellenson, Sacar Anim, Traci Carter, Hannif Cheatham, Christian Haffner, Matt Held, Cam Marotta, and Andrew Rowsey. The old guys: Sandy Cohen, Wally Ellenson, Luke Fischer, Jajuan Johnson, Michael Mache, and Duane Wilson. Of these 14 guys, we have a very young team with nine underclassmen. With a very young team, there is room to be nervous. However, because of our new recruits and our returning players, I think we are going to have a FANTASTIC year!

Along with having a very optimistic outlook on this upcoming season, there are many other reasons to be excited about Monday!

First and foremost, being at the Bradley center…watching the pre-game video, and chanting “We are Marquette” for the first time this season, is single-handedly going to be one of the best feelings ever. Maybe even better than seeing those cute little puppy videos.

Also, you get to watch sports, hang out with friends, and cough, cough, watch the dance team. Not biased at all. But the point is: BASKETBALL SEASON IS HERE!

I have never been in the student section because I am out on the court, but the student section pumps me up! Watching the student section after a winning game is crazy. I'm sure most of you know the feeling I am talking about. It is an awesome feeling being about the Marquette community, seeing confetti flying and people cheering during Marquette basketball games.

WE ARE MARQUETTE! Get ready... Let's have a great upcoming season!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
