Reading and watching "50 Shades of Grey", 50 Shades Darker," and "50 Shades Freed"when I was younger, I was in love. Now that I am older I can not seem to understand the hype around their relationship.
All he wants to do is control what she eats, drinks, where she goes, wears, drives, and such on. People overlook all of that for his grand gestures, the money, and well his looks.
In the first movie, Christian tracks Anastasia through her phone and even randomly shows up at her duplex and work. When they start to get to know each other a little bit more he starts to control her by telling her what to eat and how much to drink. "No, I protest, kicking him off," Anastasia says as Christian is trying to have sex with her. How does he reply? By saying, "If you struggle, I'll tie your feet, too. If you make a noise, Anastasia, I will gag you, Keep quiet."
Ummm does nobody realize that this is RAPE???
She stays around even after all of the manipulation, zero respect of her privacy, rape, and stalking. It is not until the end of the book/movie where he is punishing her with a belt. She is frozen by the pain is only able to cry and he does not care to check on her. She finally leaves him.
As domestic abusers do, he manipulates her to get back to gather with him using blame, grand gestures, and empty promises. He starts to let her in more and they even get engaged. You start to think Christian is changing, but he is not. He buys the company she works for... does anyone else besides me think that's sketchy?
In the third book/movie, they finally get married.
I think if she would have spoken out about his ways to her friends and ex-step-dad that she would have run. Unfortunately, that did not happen. At one point she is in a meeting with a potential author and he barges in demanding to speak with her. He has no respect for her job or her privacy. They continue to have sex and him controlling her more and more.
Anastasia finds out that she is pregnant. You can tell that she is anxious to tell Christian due to how he would react. Which is correct, because when he finds out he is furious. On top of telling her he does not want a baby, he leaves. He returns drunk, telling her that she will choose the baby over him. She notices a text on his phone from "Mrs. Robison" a woman who introduced Christian to the BDSM community. To make things worse he gets angry about her going through his phone.
It ends with Anastasia defeating Jack Hyde who was going after Christian and a glimpse at their future.
I do not understand how people defend this franchise or his character. I think that he has brainwashed her into thinking that he loves her so much that he would not be able to go on without her. So he tricks her into thinking it is okay and they will be happy. I hope that women do not see these movies or read the books and want a relationship like this.
It is ABUSE and it is NOT okay.
