There seem to be only two feelings about Valentine's Day, or February in general: Love or hate.
I actually sit on fence for Cupid's day. I do not love the idea of being single on a holiday devoted to those in a relationship, but I am not a scrooge for Valentine's day either. In fact, there are actually many good things that come from Valentine's Day even if you are single: cheap chocolate, gal pals, it's an excuse to treat yourself, it's a reason to show appreciation to important people in your life. But the best thing about Valentine's Day is the Romantic movies that come to theaters.
This past Valentine's Day Fifty Shades Freed was released.
Now I think it is safe to assume that it was going to be a bad movie. That goes without saying, but of course, I was still going to see it. I mean, it is iconic trash that you have to see!
There were moments that were so over the top that I couldn't help but laugh and scenes that just made me feel uncomfortable, but all in all, it did not let me down as the best worst romantic movie.
James Foley, the director, took full range on all the scenes. The "action" scenes were definitely not full of action but were as intense as ever which is a true talent. There is a crazed "car chase" and oh boy was my heart racing; racing from how hard I was laughing at the ridiculousness of what I was watching.
Just so this isn't an article ripping Fifty Shades apart, I have to say that the soundtrack was excellent. It was quite catchy and included some very easy and smooth songs that fit with the scenes. I especially liked the song that was at the very beginning that continues through the honeymoon montage.
There was obviously nothing that could distract from the true allure of the movie, but the hot and heavy scenes were few and far between compared to the preceding two films. I am sure many will be disappointed. However, the on-screen chemistry has improved ten-fold from the first movie which was some relief.
However, even though the chemistry improved, it almost seemed like the acting went in the opposite direction. I forgot how annoying Dakota Johnson is in these movies; I was frustrated anytime she came on screen (so the entire movie).
As attractive as Jamie Doran is, he almost gives off a creepy vibe at some points in this movie. There is a smile that I think is supposed to be a mysterious smirk but it just looks like creepy uncle Kevin smiling at you from across the dinner table. I was not having it.
The plot, in general, could have been fine, but Foley blew everything way out of proportion and ruined it. It was garbage, but I would have honestly been disappointed if it was good. I was so excited to see the cheesy awfulness of Fifty Shades with my gals and that is certainly what I got.
So basically, go see Fifty Shades Freed, you'll probably hate yourself for a moment but have no regrets.
