Fifth Harmony is the only successful group to come out of the once show ‘X-Factor USA’. The group has opened for Demi Lovato and are now on their 4th headlining tour, also known as the 7/27 Tour.
The 7/27 Tour just made a stop in the Tampa Bay Area on August 25th and brought not only Fifth Harmony but also feature JoJo, Jake Miller, and Victoria Monet. Walking into the venue was very different from other shows I had been to at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater. It was crowded with people and the merchandise line was not complete craziness. Those signs would be considered a bad thing to the artists, the show was obviously not sold out, but for a spectator, it made the experience even more special. When I walked in I was lucky enough to not only meet Jake Miller but also JoJo, and no that was not because of a contest but because the crowd was so contained and small that they felt they could go out to radio tents or hang out at the merchandise stand.
That was just the start of a really good night and show. It all start with Victoria Monet and although she is not well known, she played up that fact. To get the crowd going and get them interacting she sang covers of Ariana Grande’s most recent singles, "Be Alright and Let Me Love You", even bringing out a member of Fifth Harmony Dinah Hansen to sing with her. The next act up was Jake Miller, he is a Florida native who just recently signed a record deal. Jake was only on the tour for the Florida shows and he brought in a lot of his own fan base to the show. His songs were catchy and even though I had not heard most of his music before I found myself singing along to the chorus of almost every song. JoJo was up next and the 13-year-old me was incredibly excited for her, I had the chance to see her 4 years ago and she has blossomed musically since then. From "Too Little Too Late" to her new single "Mad Love" from her upcoming album everyone was up and dancing along with her. Not only was her performance sensational she was so humble and sweet when meeting with her fans, making sure to thank all of them for coming and even complimenting some of them on their makeup, etc.
To close the night was of course Fifth Harmony and they not only named this tour perfectly but also themed it to make it a play on words. 7/27 is not only a plane, but it is also the day that Fifth Harmony was formed on "X-Factor". They made the whole show into a journey, using their outfits as well as videos in-between songs to add to the story of the journey. The beginning video showed their beginning on "X-Factor" to them winning "X-Factor" but each video was also set up to be like the announcements made on flights by flight attendants. The girls were also dressed up for most of the show like pilots. But the show was not just good because of the theme or the videos, this group can put on a show and they can sing. They made sure to use every aspect of the stage running from one end to the other, and even dancing in sync at moments.
I have been to many concerts and I have seen both Fifth Harmony and JoJo before but these artists have grown and their music and performances have grown with them. The show really was a journey and once we got to our “destination” I was very satisfied with the ride.
