This semester is most definitely flying by. It’s hard to imagine that Thanksgiving break is about three weeks away at this point! Midterms are finally over yet somehow finals are closely looming. It’s very easy to get stressed out at this point in the semester, but this is a critical time to remember that He is always by our side. In case you forgot, or you’re feeling stressed and worn out, here are some of my favorite Bible verses that help get me through tough times.
1. "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:34
2. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
3. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
4. “Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.” 2 Corinthians 4:1
5. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.” Psalms 37:7-8
6. “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:6-7
7. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
8. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
9. “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’ - yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’” James 4:13-15
10. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
11. “But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you.” Acts 26:16
12. “For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.” Psalms 27:5
13. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
14. “And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my messages were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:3-5
15. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
Remember, God doesn’t give us anything that we cannot handle. It is through times of struggle that we really build our relationship with Him, because it’s easy to love Him when things are going great. However, while on bumpy roads we cannot lose sight of Him. These are the times when we need Him the most, so don’t lose sight of the One who is always by your side, because when the going gets tough, the tough get going. God’s word keeps us tough through it all.
