GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

The World Cup. A global sporting event that unites people from around the world through the love of soccer, or in a more correct term, "fútbol." Through our televisions and smartphones we will see images of people with their nation's flags wrapped around their shoulders, painted on their faces, and transformed into any and every article of clothing. We will witness victory, loss, and the emotions that entail them.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup takes place in Russia this year with 32 teams competing for the golden trophy. From June 14 to July 15, sports coverage will show jaw-dropping goals, heart-crushing defeats, and passion for a sport that unifies a world that seems so divided at times.

Here are 12 thoughts that people will have as they watch the world cup this year.

YAY!! THE WORLD CUP IS STARTING!!

The excitement and anticipation is SO real. Get your war paint and jerseys ready. It's going to be an amazing month full of soccer.

I'm so ready for this!! Where are my face paints and flags?!?

You have never felt more spirit and pride for your team than during the World Cup. You will wake up early and stay up late to watch your team score goals all the way till the gold cup match.

WAIT. THE UNITED STATES ISN'T COMPETING?!?!?

media.giphy.com

You read that right. The United States won't be competing in this year's World Cup. They lost 2-1 against Trinidad & Tobago in the qualifying round on October 10 last year. Put back the American flag for now, because you can take it out for the 2026 World Cup, as we won the bid to host the sporting event combined with Mexico and Canada.

HOLD ON. THIS GAME IS AT WHAT TIME?!?!?

media.giphy.com

As you read the schedule for the World Cup matches, don't be surprised if you have to wake up super early to watch a game. Set up your alarm clock to catch the game live, or head to Twitter to watch the highlights of each match. You know you're going to want to watch every single shocking goal.

Wow, these players are SO HOT!!

media.giphy.com

If you didn't know, soccer players are extremely attractive. Do yourself a favor and look up players like Christian Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, along with other athletes to be on the look out for as you watch the World Cup.

GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

media.giphy.com

Football payers may have their touchdown dances, but it doesn't compare to the reaction of an entire stadium, players, and commentators after a goal in a fútbol game. Your ears will soon get used to the famous line, "GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLL!"

Why don't I play soccer??

media.giphy.com

You feel so inspired by the extreme athleticism these players have. The strength in their legs is like a super power, as they are able to kick a soccer ball across a field anywhere up to 110 yards away. Start practicing now if you want to play in the next World Cup.

Wait. I am SO out of shape.

media.giphy.com

Yeah there is no way you could compete at the global level as these guys, but it's nice to dream.

But I would run across a soccer field for David Beckham anytime.

media.giphy.com

He may not be playing in the World Cup, but it's the truth that he is worth running 110 yards for him.

OMG!! ANOTHER WORLD CUP SONG!!!

Remember the awesomeness that was the 2010 World Cup song by Shakira when the games were held in South Africa?!? Now there is another catchy tune that will be stuck in your head for a month. Oh and the music video? Will Smith is in it.

THE REFEREE SAID WHAT?!?

media.giphy.com

Some of the cards that the referees will pull out on players will cause major uproar. Controversy will start Twitter wars online and people will be yelling at them from the stands. Normal day in sports, right?!?

I'M PUMPED!! LET'S WATCH THIS THING!!

media.giphy.com

Get ready, because every news outlet and social media platform is going to be posting about the sports event of the year. Find your favorite teams, root for them until the end, and have fun taking part in this unifying and beautiful sport.

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
