It is no secret that dating has changed drastically as time has moved on. The dating scene has progressed from writing letters, to making phone calls, to sending a text, and to sending a Snapchat or Direct Message. It is safe to say that girls everywhere are fed up with the technologies. After reading all of Nicholas Sparks books and watching many high school-era TV shows, we are left daydreaming about men that are not real. I want to take pity on guys these days because media does not allow them to win, but all they have to do is be nice, call us up, and maybe use full sentences instead of acronyms (example: WYD). Not all guys have conformed, and if you have a good one, I am so happy for you! But there are a lot out there. Here is a look into why our expectations may be so high. (Guys maybe take note.)
1. Will Blakelee "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks
Will sees right through Ronnie's hard exterior and falls in love with her, despite what his friends tell him. And then, spoiler alert, he gives up Vanderbilt and goes to Columbia so the girl he loves "can watch me make a few more mistakes."
2. Troy Bolton "High School Musical Trilogy"
Being the star athlete has some stereotypes to it. One being liking nothing other than sports. Troy likes to sing, and throughout high school learns to tell his friends how he feels. He changed the game forever when he drove over 1,000 miles to be with Gabriella so they could spend their prom night together. Plus that shimmy he does during "Breaking Free" is magical.
3. Jay Gatsby "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Gatsby's main goal in life is to be successful in order to get the attention of his one true love, Daisy. His entire life fortune is dedicated to him despite not seeing her in years.
4. Matt Saracen "Friday Night Lights"
He treats his grandma wonderfully and has a pure heart. His innocence in the first season is perfection.
5. Charlie St. Cloud "Charlie St. Cloud" by Ben Sherwood
Charlie's whole life is scheduled around his promise to his late brother, Sam. They play catch every night at sunset until Charlie needs to use his special gift to save a local sailor, Tess. His loyalty and dedication are what every girl longs for.
6. Gerry Kennedy "P.S. I Love You"
This is where the bar was pushed to it's highest height. Gerry knew his wife, Holly, would not deal well with his death. To ease her into the widow lifestyle, he arranged for letters to be sent to her starting on her 30th birthday. "And know, wherever I am, I'm missing you."
7. Ben Wrightman "Fever Pitch"
Ben is the ultimate Red Sox fan, and relationships have always been an issue because the girl is always competing with the Sox for his heart. When Lindsey says she too is having a problem with it, Ben arranges to sell his season tickets. "Yeah, well, if the Yankees looked that good in a dress."
8. Noah Calhoun "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks
"I wrote to you everyday for a year." Noah hung off of a Ferris Wheel and built a house for the love of his life. Come. On.
9. Jacob Black "Twilight Saga"
His feelings for Bella were extremely strong and powerful. He had the capability to fill the void she had for Edward. However, what he felt for Bella is nothing compared to what he felt for Renesmee. He literally waits for her. Mind, body, and soul.
10. Seth Cohen "The O.C."
Seth has had a crush on Summer since childhood. He never gave up on her despite her numerous denials and horrible attitude on the way to Tijuana. Also, he was one of the first to rock the awkward, nerdy type.
11. Jim Halpert "The Office"
Jim is also cute in the dorky way. And the way he looks and smiles at Pam. AND when he cut his tie because Pam ripped her dress. *silent sobs*
12. Zack Siler "She's All That"
At the start of the movie, he's kind of a jerk, but he falls for a Laney and proves it when he shares the most epic first-kiss scene ever. And how cute is he when he has the JV soccer team clean her house so Laney can go to the beach?!
13. Cory Matthews "Boy Meets World"
“All I understood was that she was the girl I sat up every night thinking about and when I’m with her I feel happy to be alive, like I can do anything, even talk to you like this. So that’s what I feel is love—when I’m better because she’s here.” I'll leave this here.
14. Ryan Atwood "The O.C."
Ryan has a hard family life with deadbeat parents and an older brother in jail. His hard past does not affect his kind personality. When he put Marissa to bed after her friends left her on the porch passed out my heart sank.
15. Dawson Cole "The Best of Me"
A character like Ryan Atwood, Dawson came from a horrid family with a violent history. He lands himself in jail and refuses visitors so his girlfriend, Amanda, could go on and have the life she deserves. When they are reunited over the death of an old friend, the difficulties are overcome and they fall back in love.
16. Stiles Stilinski "Teen Wolf"
Stiles' love for Lydia is unconditional. He has tried to mask it, even when dating Malia, but Lydia is his girl. He is the only one of his friends that is not a supernatural yet he tries the hardest to protect his friends against creatures.
17. Travis Brody "Hannah Montana: The Movie"
When we think farm boys, he is the one that comes to mind. He is attractive, kind, and willing. Not to mention, he is very wise. "Life's a climb, but the view's great."
18. Drew Patterson "Picture This"
He also ditches the popular norms and falls for the dorky, clumsy girl people make fun of. Contrary to popular belief, he does not take Mandy into the tower to "de-flower her." He shocked us all when he left his evil date standing on the stage and crowned Mandy as his prom queen.
Bonus: Stephen Colletti "Laguna Beach"
Yes, he is not fictional, but he still stole every girl's heart with that popped collar shirt.
