For his entire life, he only saw monochrome.

The same plain shades, the spectrum of grays from white to black. He observed the same gray sky and the same gray grass every morning, and had his own way of appreciating the simple complexity of the muted colors. He never understood why people were bewildered and pitied him for his blindness to color.

They recommended products and surgeries, but he never felt the slightest bit attracted to the idea of color. That is, until he met her.

As soon as she turned and their eyes met for the first time, he felt the wind being knocked out of him, and he stumbled back. He felt a wave of emotions crash over him, and suddenly, the world was full of colors. She made him start seeing the color in life, and he finally understood what he had been missing his entire life.

The sky was no longer a plane of gray. He saw it as a burst of blue, a free expanse stretching across the sky, at some times a diamond clear sky and others a deep sapphire glow radiating from the heavens.

The sea was no longer just to listen to or wade in. It was now a crashing of worries onto the warm sand and a washing of peace and serenity onto the shore, the soft, golden sunlight glimmering off of the surface of the water and covering the beach in a warm, safe glow.

Fire wasn't just meant to keep warm. It was red fury and raging passion burning with the brightest power and intensity.

She showed him things he's never been able to experience before, parts of life that were all new to him. It excited him, but it also scared him. He had never relied so heavily on someone, never trusted someone so deeply as he did her. But it was okay. The idea that he could lose her and everything she brought to him terrified him, but he was okay to let himself trust her and fall.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
